Hi Folks, just got my 987 Boxster S and she will need a service in a few months, Major, 4 year, Soo the question is this , folk have suggested OPC Newcastle/ Redline Thornaby or Tom Ferguson Gateshead, Can I get some feedback on these please, OPC will be dearest I expect but any advice/ experience please?! many thanks in advance Ian.

Where in the North East are you based?

There is another alternative if you are based closer to the south of the region in the shape of Car Tech and Care in Northallerton. The owner, David Raper, is ex-Redline and also used to work for JCT 600 in Leeds. He has done a few jobs on my 968 and I have been very pleased with the work and the price.

If you are closer to Gateshead, then you probably can't go far wrong with Tom Ferguson as he has a very good reputation too.

Can't compare I'm afraid since my only recent experience has been with OPC Newcastle. I find their customer care very good indeed - and they want to attract new customers and retain existing ones, so you may get a pleasant surprise if you ask for a quote..

..may not be relevant in your case, but the last two courtesy cars I've had were a Boxster with <500 miles on the clock and a Cayman with <1,000 [:)]

..good luck wherever you go!

Thanks folks..Im in Durham so perhaps Northallerton is not my first choice but thanks for info....Eduardo yes OPC Newcastle hinted at price "flexabilty" due, in their words to "the recession" Im gonna go back to them and see what there can do armed with a few independent quotes...thanks again all. PS OPC do seem to be better/ more welcoming than my last time there 4 years ago which was the worst buying experience ever!

They have definitely improved the quality of their customer care in recent years, in my experience. Definitely worth a try these days.

The Silverlink OPC has recently sorted some recalls on my 964. I dropped her off on Saturday and collected close of business on Monday. All was well and very good service. Was only offered a BMW as a courtesy car (I tried for a Cayman or Boxster!), so declined. Must be because I wasnt spending any money!

Hi Folks , got car back, price was matched to non opc, great service, had 4x4 Cayenne for day( at my request, family day!) Only fly in ointment was that car had flat battery when I went to start it! Everyone not sure why, but they jump started it and I drove it home and its starting fine now after 25 mile trip (fingers crossed for tomorrow morning!).

well they kept it overnight and now report that the battery has dead cell, £230.00 for new one, not pleased as the car was faultless on tuesday when it went it, waiting the service manager to call me back......

p.s. Battery £71.16 at North East Tyres and Exhausts with 3 year warranty......100 yds from OPC....

Although I have looked, I can't find an emoticon for someone shaking their head in disbelief.

I can imagine how you must be feeling. Are they going to match the price from the tyre and exhaust place?

oK latest is , battery replaced at OPC at cost price as goodwill measure , car started this morning ! Despite battery hi-cup OPC Newcastle do seem more welcoming to customers than 5 years ago, recession has focussed a lot of companies into better customer service, a silver lining!? ta all,

Glad to hear it ended well.

Having had Porsches for many years now, and had dealing with the OPC before it was JCT600 (Gordon Ramsay anyone?) there is no doubt in my mind that the OPC is a far more welcoming place than it used to be. Long may it continue!

Cheers Colin, Im off to scotland this weekend( battery permitting!) should be great to give the car a good run....
