Not before 3K rpm?

I've only had my 997S 05 Reg. for a couple of weeks now. I've only driven a few hundred miles and still finding my bearings. One of the things I've noticed is that the car does really come alive only around the 3k rpm mark. When the rev. needle is about there, almost no matter what gear I'm in, the car is extremely responsive and shoots forward effortlessly. Below the 3K rpm, it's a totally different story. Being my first Porsche, I'd like to know whether this is normal.

The 3K mark is where the variable system comes into effect [8D]

Have a look at the torque curve in your manual, that's when it really becomes steep, it's normal.
