I purchased a official porsche warranty when i got my 996 back in November,I noticed I was having to top up my water coolant regulary so i took it to porsche Nottingham and was told I had to replace my expansion tank and blanking plate, and was then told it wasnt covered on my warranty. WHATS THE POINT PAYING £750 WHEN THEY DONT ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY ON THE COVER. According to the warranty the coolant system is covered. Any advice greatfully accepted as porsche want £550 for the priveledge

Rayneham,

commiserations, however, from what I gather (having read the extensive and regular, valid, groans from numerous owners), no OPC has ever paid out for this repair, and you're (sadly) another member of the not-so-exclusive club of owners with a duff coolant tank.

It is a job that could be tackled by the average DIYer...

Here's a recent thread on the problem:

Best of Luck.

That really is an appaling state of affairs, so basicallly the warranty isn't woth the paper it's written on.

Depends how you look at it - I had a brand new gearbox fitted to my C4 with no quibble what so ever, had a slight whine from the rear and the technician said "The pinions are knackered - you are going to need a new gearbox which will be about £5,500 fitted!" My answer was - "No it's not mate - got extended warranty"
New box fitted - no problems. (Had a clutch fitted while the box was off - only got charged for the clutch, no fitting charge).
I know that some of the smaller niggly things are not covered, which is annoying, but if you consider that they will change engines and gearboxes without so much as a whimper - you can't complain really. However, it is annoying when it's part that regularly fails!!!!!
Look on the bright side, it could be worse - you may have bought a BMW.

Yup, I've just shelled out £500+ to OPC Hatfield myself for this very same repair only days after having renewed the OPC warranty. I tried everything to get a goodwill payment from Porsche GB but nobody interested. Hatfield gave me a few quid off because I think the service people were a tad embarassed. Repair done and now I have one stained rear carpet and a couple of extraneous rattles which were'nt there before and for which Hatfield have denied responsibility. You could say I'm not exactly a happy bunny
I also got a quote from JZ Machtech @ £350 - 400 but they could'nt do the job for 3-4 weeks and there could be OPC warranty issues but they did confirm that it was a 3-4 hour job which may even involve lifting the engine on a C4
What a load of fuss and dosh for a plastic bottle

Did this myself - New bottle and Cap is about £150 from an OPC (plastic bottle.. []), 1-2 hours max - on my 1999 C4 you certainly didn't have to drop the engine ! It's a bit of a fiddly job and only for those with experience working in tight spaces !

On what grounds do they exclude this item from the warrantee. I thought the warrantee was like the one you get with a new car. Its not a 'consumable' surely (maybe with the frequency they go means it has become a consumable :( )
