Member News
Welcome to new members David Lomas (Plumley) and Simon & Fiona Tracy Forster (Wrenbury - Cayman S). Your fellow R5 members and I look forward to meeting you at one of our forthcoming events.

Next R5 Event
The next R5 event is our annual visit to the Porsche Centre Wilmslow, on November 9, which takes place in lieu of our regular Club Night. (See FORTHCOMING EVENTS below for more information.)

Thank You
As you will duly see from my account of "˜Porsches at Arley Hall 2012', space constraints prevented me from thanking by name all the helpers who made it possible for us to run the event on the day, so here they are:
Phil, Nette & Seb Graham, Adrian Stuart & his mate Ray, David Tubby, Chris Clark, Michael Williams, Mike Ratcliffe, Paul Clare, Bill Keddie, Gary Burney, Roddy Lennox, Steve Brookes, Linda & Peter Aston, Keri Dolton, Graham & Hazel Marginson, Peter Farley, Trevor & Debbie Roberts, Steve & Jenny Davies, Tony & Kim Grocott, and Cecil Henry "" and there were almost certainly others who just mucked in, particularly at the end of the day.
Somewhat surprisingly, we had a full complement of volunteers at 0630 for setting-up, but, conversely, we were seriously short-handed once the event got underway, with the result that most of the helpers we did have worked much longer stints than planned. Hence, I hope those R5 members who attended the event, but for whatever reason did not volunteer to help, will make a point of acknowledging the invaluable contributions of those that did.

Award for R5
As some of you may have seen in the report of the Regional Director, Paul Seagrave, in the current edition of Porsche Post, R5's was rated best of the Regional displays at the 50th Anniversary event. Congratulations are therefore due to everyone who helped put it together, especially Hasan Isaji (911 2.7 RS), Stuart Speed (964 RS), Steve Kings (993 RS) & President of the Porsche Club of Ireland, Dave Whelan (GT3 RS) whose cars were featured in the "˜RS Evolution'.

New Year Dinner
Following the success of the experiment in January this year of holding a New Year Dinner in lieu of the more usual pre-Christmas celebration, our January 11 Club Night will take a similar form. The dinner choices will again include a limited, but adequate selection of dishes from the normal Tudor Bar Restaurant menu at about £15.00 per head for a starter, main course & coffee, or about £18.00 per head with dessert. Our customary Regulars Rewards draw will take place at the conclusion of the dinner.
See my December Newsletter for more information, but in the meantime please let me have your bookings, preferably by e-mail.

FORTHCOMING R5 EVENTS
November 9: PC Wilmslow Open Evening
The arrangements for PC Wilmslow's Open Evening have now been finalised and, although it will follow the now traditional format, it will include some new features, viz: demo-drives in any model in the current range; a fastest lap competition on the Centre's race car simulator; conducted tours of the neighbouring Stratstone Ferrari showroom; and, 15 - 20 minute Workshop investigations of persistent "˜niggles'. In addition, a hot-pot supper is planned in lieu of the customary cold buffet and there will be a small charge for entering the usual quiz, the proceeds of which will go to the Centre's 2011 charity, "Sparks".
Please note that unlike our regular Club Nights, it will start at the earlier time of 1900.

December 7: Club Night *** PLEASE NOTE CHANGE OF DATE ***
Our December Club Night - which will now be a week earlier than previously scheduled, to avoid clashing with the PC Wilmslow Preview of the new Porsche 911 (Type 991) - will be at the regular Deanwater Hotel venue, starting at 2000. (Alternatively get there for about 1900 and join Keri & I and the other R5 members who have dinner in the Tudor Bar Restaurant prior to the meeting.) On this occasion the evening will be split into two parts, starting with a short presentation by Mike Newman, former three-times Guinness world blind land-speed record holder, on both his plans for recovering the title during the coming year, driving a Porsche, and his Speed of Sight car rally - "˜Destination Manchester' - scheduled for April 20/21 2012 (for more information go to www.speedofsight.co.uk). The second part of the evening will comprise a slide-show entitled "˜No Picnic on Mount Kenya'.
In recognition of the time of year, complimentary mince pies and coffee/tea will be available during the slide-show.

OTHER CLUB ACTIVITIES
Please note this information is provided solely to alert you to other Porsche events at venues not too far from home that you may wish to attend. It does not mean any formal R5 presence is planned.
