Hi All - do you mind if I pick your brains on the value of a Boxster?

I'm going to have a look at a work colleagues Boxster on Sunday with a view to making an offer. The car has been well looked after by him over the last 5 years, with yearly servicing from a good independent. Its a good honest car, so I'm attracted to it.

Details:
2000W 2.7 Boxster
Mileage ~ approx 75k
2 previous owners. Present owner 5 years.
2nd car, garaged with approx 2500mls dry miles annually.
A series of bills from past few years that demonstrate 'good housekeeping'.
Guards red with black leather

I don't want to be rude, but also don't want to pay the earth.

I'm thinking that 5k seems about right if it is in good, original condition. Am I close?

Thanks, Lee

From £5k to £14k on [link=http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/list.asp?s=844&p=&d=0&min=&max=&y1=2000&y2=2000&txt=2.7&px=&xsl=list&pagesize=15&filter=TP&o=q&pc=]Pistonheads.[/link]

Thanks Spyderman for the filtered search. This makes the 5k sound like a good deal. What I have found from experience (with other Porsche / non-Porsche models) is that the cheaper cars are generally unloved or tired examples. There is truly no such thing as a cheap Porsche! I wondered whether people had recent experience of this. On Pistonheads and ebay there seemds to be a few <5k examples, but I expect they all have stories to tell. Thanks

I think you need to avoid under-selling it. If its in good mechanical condition, people might wrongly assume its going to fall apart around them.75k miles is actually fairly low for that age, even for a Porsche.

Well, viewing went fine. Lots of options on the car - well more than I'd ever had on a porsche before. A few things that weren't to my taste ... Tan leather interior (- I thought it was black). Body kit - slightly different front spoiler, side sill covers and rear boot mounted spoiler... but actually quite tasteful. Not recorded in option codes - so assume aftermarket. A few things that slightly concerned me ... After market CD player 1 service in Italy! Nearly 20k miles between a service Seemed to have a squeak over speed bumps. But... Drove very nice - it helped that it was a beautiful day for a drive. Guy is very genuine and would not sell a pup His price was less than my first estimate! Going to think about it for a few more hours - but will probably call to say I'm buying. Cheers, Lee

Before you do.... wouldn't you rather have a 3.2 S.... can have mine for a decent offer around asking price mines here [link=http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/180790592284?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649]http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/180790592284?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649[/link]

Cheers Showtime - I have to be careful though. If its too good / expensive I may have to sell my Sunday best [:)] I've picked the car up now and I have to say that I've enjoyed the first day of ownership probably more than any other car I've owned. It is my first roadster, so this probably has a lot to do with it. I've tried to research some of the history, but come up with blanks mostly. Some interesting things already that I would appreciate some help with .... > Its a 1999 car, but delivered on 10/3/2000 with 3000 miles! Does this mean it was a demonstrator? > It has the aerocup kit, option XAA fitted. I now understand this is a serious upgrade (different boot / front & rear bumper, sill covers), but it does not show on the options. >>Could it realy have been retrofitted? >>Can I check if its genuine Porsche? Cheers, Lee

I beleive some of the kits were dealer fitted, but stand to be corrected. If so maybe ordered after car delivered, or if your theory of it being a Demonstrator is correct then either Deler fitted for the demo, or when it was sold to 'first' owner. Would a Porsche Deler be able to track on the computer? Good luck in the research

Hi Lee Congrats on your new Boxster If you contact your local Porsche dealership and tell them you are a PCGB member they can arrange for a certificate of authenticity free of charge and this will have all of your options on it that the car had fiited from the factory. Regards Tracy Boxster RS

Hi Tracy - I have all the options from the service book and no sign of the body kit (23 in total though!). I spoke with the supplying dealer and they confirm it wasn't on the car from the factory [:)]. I spoke with Porsche customer services in Reading and I have to say ... I wasn't very impressed. This is the second time I've called them and I get the distinct feeling they are not customer focussed. I might just let it go and enjoy driving the car... but solving the mystery is fun. I think... Cardiff Porsche was the first owner. <Someone> then had it for 5 years (and possibly added the body kit). In this time it was serviced at Stourbridge (2), Cardiff Specialist & Alicante OPC! Then someone owned it for a year - serviced it at Welsh Porsche specialist in Bridgend. Then the PO had it in 2006. Cheers, Lee

So ,Lee,are you going to bring both to Curborough? You'll probably go even faster in the roadster.

ORIGINAL: Steve Brookes Hi Lee, welcome to the 'I own a boxster for the daily drive and a 964 for weekends club' [:D]
Cheers Steve - I'll petition for a new Forum on PCGB [:)] Any ideas for a name?

I'll have to see if they can do a family rate for me ... R13 is there in May, so should have an early chance to see how it compares with red # 1. Will have to run the tyre pressures really high for a true comparison though [:)] ... excuses, excuses, excuses
