Nugget....Tyre Advice

993 C2......I have 18's (Split Rimms). The car is used daily all year round in all weathers (bought to drive!!) (15K p.a. ish) and never tracked. I need new rear tyres.

At present I have Continentals and these have seemed fine...however, I have no experience of other tyres grip/wear rates etc as this is my first Porsche....

What would you fit?

Many thanks

Tyres.... about as emotive a subject as oil!

I have Conti's on a set of track wheels and had them on my road wheels before swapping for Pirelli P-Zero Rossos. When the Rossos are spent I'll most probably go back to Conti's, because the Rossos are terrible! I've given them the 'breaking in period' but they are noisy, harsh, they won't have the wear rate and trying to get a stable tyre pressure is all but impossible. Plus sides, there are non! They don't grip any better than the Conti's, in either wet or dry conditions. The Conti's on track generate enough grip for you to be a complete hooligan and achieve cornering forces you really wouldn't want to be in the realms of on the public roads!

Can't speak for Michelin or Bridgestone, but perhaps someone else will chip in. Basically, IMHO, if you're happy with the Conti's you have at the minute, stick with them and don't court disaster!

Regards

After a lengthy settling down period I found that Rossos were quieter and gripped better in the wet than Contisport 1s but did not give the same instant turn in. (17" on a 964).

On my 993 the experience is much the same. I think that the Rossos are a good tyre and well worth the outlay but I think that suspension settings that are good for some tyres may not be as good for these.
