number plate light fitting

I hate to appear stupid but I bought a replacement rear number plate light fitting today thinking it would be a dead simple job to unplug the broken one and plug in the new one. Sadly when I got round to doing it I just can't get the old one unplugged. There seems to be a small retaining lug holding the thing together and I am reluctant to pull it too hard for fear of breaking the plug part that is connected to the wires. Is there anyone who can put me out of my misery - as always I only looked at it after the garage had closed so no help there!

Cheers,

Paul.

Most of the plugs on the lights have a snap together lug as you say. The plug on the rear main light clusters, which I have changed should be similar and release as follow:
To open you have to slide a small screwdriver down the opening in the catch of the plug to disingage it and then pull the plug and socket apart at the same time. They will come apart very easily if the catch is disingaged, no need to pull very hard!

The small lug on mine broke and I bought a replacement part from the OPC (not that expensive) but they fitted it in about 10 seconds so didnt charge me. I too thought how do you get this back without damaging the component so was quite relieved when the OPC did it.
