Number Plate Lights

Getting the car ready to go in for some rear end work. The number plate lights were so far gone that I literally had to destroy them to get them out. Looking for an alternative supplier for these or alternative part as the prices online that I have just been looking at for these are quite frankly ridiculous. Any help appreciated. I will of course check OPC on Monday morning.

Rob,

Can't be much help on this but I presume you've tried the usual breakers and whatnot? Elliot on here has been good for me in the past.

Failing that, is the part common with VW/Audi? Or could you find something else and adapt it to fit? They are simple things, designed to produce some light through a small hole, and there must be other things out there that could be made to work very easily.

Oli.

Have you tried James at Only Nine ,Weaverham-07772 911911 or 01606 853911-I've bought many spares from him sometimes not mainline like a rear seatbelt set where he even cut out the fixing brackets in the boot area for me,relays wheelcentre badge etc.He keeps toteboxes of looms, switches, lamps etc in his unit.

Nice young guy, great to deal with -mention my name if you like (or dare!)

I have Elliot checking stock for me. Would rather use new but even OPC want nearly ÂŁ40 for these which is ridiculous. No luck on the alternative part front yet I am afraid.

That's spooky I was looking at all of these last night. This is how I will go I think. Find a suitable size aftermarket LED unit and make it fit. Might end up being a nice upgrade. I will post the results when I find something suitable

Have you got your rear bumper off, I wondered if you have two different types of bumper brackets fitted?

Oh I like those..:) I have upgraded most of my bulbs to LED this year, both interior and exterior, exterior wise I have the indicators and now number plate lights to do, so yes please do keep us updated ROB as to what you find.

cheers

Pete

Yes done all bulbs also to LED. Need to get some ballast resistors for the indicators though. Will do Pete. May only be a trial upgrade of something that will do the job for now but should make for good proof of concept.

I tried LED's for the indicators of my 968, the flasher thought a bulb had failed so went into rapid flash mode. Aparently you can change the flasher for an electronic one that works with LED's - Waylander (of course!) posted about it (with a link to a suitable one) on 968uk.

Yes you can buy a flasher can or use ballast resistors. The can would of course have to fit in the same space i.e. the pin orientation.

Hmm they look remarkably similar to the LED units I purchased from ebay for around a tenner. They are for a mondeo but I should easily be able to modify them to fit. I am thinking of fitting them inside rather than out. Mainly because the LED unit of the light is larger than the aperture for the original light and I didn't want to enlarge it. Trouble is the car is with my bodywork man at the minute so I can't crack on. I will update with pictures once I can though.

OK so the car came back from paint today and I changed my mind and got the guy to enlarge the number plate light apertures so that I could fit the ebay purchased lights through the aperture to allow them to sit flush on the neoprene gaskets they came with. I for one am well please with the results. See for yourself:
