In the process of trying to do something "useful" with the car while it is stuck in the garage as my driveway is re-paved, I decided to top up the engine oil. In the near pitch darkness I managed to "miss" the filler neck with about half a litre of oil, which I only noticed as I heard it start to trickle onto the floor !!! Anyway, I mopped up the oil from the engine bay, and the floor and tried to work out where it had dripped through. By the looks of things I've cleaned up most of it, but does the oil collect anywhere inaccessible that might render the car a moving fireball next time I use it i.e. in the heat exchanger etc ??? Am I safe to use the car on the understanding that it might be a bit smoky for a while as the oil burns off ??? Do I need to take anything apart to clean it up ??? Any advice would be gratefully received ! I suspect I'm not the first dummy to do this ..........

Just to top things off, as I pushed the car forward a couple of feet to clean up the spillage, I managed to scrape the open driver's door on the garage wall - d'oh !!!!!

Not sure on the oil bit Jamie, but I did try pushing the car once (up hill) by pushing against one of the headlight's.Obviously the thing popped inwards and made a right mess!!!.....Hope that makes you feel a bit better?[&:]

just get off what you can m8 with a rag and just have a quick look underneath and wipe off what you can see a small bit will just burn off,but should be ok if you get off what you can

Will it have accumulated in the undertray ?

Or, like all 9m upgrades is yours also removed to aid cooling ?

If removed, I can't reaaly see where much oil could accumulate --- it's pretty runny stuff !

As an aside, I get a tiny run of oil from my filler cap which just dampens the engine pan near the HT lead block (?).

I just clean it up but I guess the cap isn't quite fitting, is there an obvious solution --- other than wiping up the tiny amount after each run ?
