Nurburgring Questions

Thanks to those who replied to my posts on Nick Epps' Nurburgring post, but thought I may as well list all my questions in one place. So if anybody can help me with any of the following, I'd appreciate it....

1) Any recommended accomodation?
2) I've had some track tuition a long, long time ago but would probably benefit from a track day with some tuition before I go, just to make the most of it. Any recommendations?
3) What sort of lap times shall I expect to achieve? I was going to aim for <10mins but reading some other posts make me think that may be a little modest!
4) Seriously - will my brakes and tyres be shredded?

Any other tips etc. are most welcome!
 
If you are going to the ring for the first time - PLEASE don't think of aiming for a laptime - it's really not important.
There's no room for error, get a good idea where the track goes first - and remember you may find a campervan round the next bend, or a biker laying in the road...[:eek:]

Just go and enjoy it - we love it [:)] Just realise any mistakes will be paid for heavily.


 
I don't think the ring should be too hard on tyres and brakes as long as you are driving properly i.e. smoothly and progressively. I had a half track day at Donington recently and had two sessions out on my own. Even though I wasn't timing myself you get a sense of how fast you're going. On my third session I took an instructor out with me and almost immediately I felt the speed pick up significantly as he was correcting my lines and I was being far easier on the car at the same time. I think the majority of the corners on the ring are farily smooth as it doesn't appear to be a particularly twisty track so I think you're car should stand up well. You should let us know how you get on as I am planning a trip there probably for next year.

If you mean the new GP circuit - then no it's not too twisty....
But if you mean the Nordschieffe, I beg to differ![:D]
 
I agree with Mark...twisty..yes....lap time...just don't do it
I went to the ring just to "drive round behind the bus" attitude, the circuit can bite if you feel the need to push on, All I did was to try and store a series of bends that were ok to push a little on the way out, accept that on some blind crests I just didn't bother and backed off, spectator bends drove round calmly.The thing that supprised me was the ups and downs of the track, can really unsettle the car when you don't want it too. Never follow anyone, never time yourself. Other than that, have fun and get your ring sticker
 
I recently did a Novice Session at Donington where a 'snake' of cars followed a proffessional driver. It wasn't particularly fast but it did teach you the track and gave you a good ideas of the lines so when I went out on my own after at least I felt I knew the circuit. Do they offer such a service at the Ring for first timers??
 
nope....they treat this as a German toll road, not a track. You could go in the ring taxi, and scare yourself to death
