OBC stalk

Hello Folks,

Perhaps someone can help with this query. I've recently had a hip replacement and now find that OBC stalk hits my knee every time I change gear due to the way my leg moves! I've carried out a search to see if the stalk can be removed and it appears to be fitted to a stub lever; does anyone know if the stalk can simply be twisted/pulled off (perhaps there's more to it than this)? Any help greatly appreciated.

Regards.

It can be removed from the stalk holder, but this does require some dissassembly of the column cover behind the steering wheel.

If you wanted a cheap option, you could attack it with a junior hacksaw! It is just a plastic stalk after all. Only drawback of this is that you ruin something that has value once removed ...

Yes. The OBC stalk is the only one which is detachable. It is held on to the central switch unit by two M4 cap head (allen) screws. If you pull the steering wheel all the way towards you, and rotate the steering wheel, you can undo the screws holding the column cover and remove it. This will give you access to the stalk, and you can unscrew and remove it. There is a cable tie holding the cable, and a plug which you can pull out of the loom.

Here are the cover screws (on a car without OBC):

Many thanks folks (especially Richard), I will give that serious consideration before making a decision.

Regards.
