OBD is not your friend

Well with all the cars going missing, and if you've not heard then you must live in a cave or under a rock.
They range from Vw, Bmw, Mercedez and Fiat to name a few, so under the VW group that's a big can of worms right there.

The issue is your car gets reprogrammed from the OBD port to work on a new blank because the OBD port always has a live feed "pin 16" and that's OBD standard and that powers the device they use.

Plug into pin 16 and a ground at any time and you will have power .

So if a thief breaks in your car and wants to take, his programmer is then powered by your OBD port to enable them to reprogram the ECU to a new key.

So without getting into the subject too deep and before anyone says "oh this cant be done on our cars" wrong "IT CAN" by OBD standard definition in Europe it has left flawed ways to enter the system you don't need super Durametric machines or thousands of pounds of equipment.

As a security measure break the 12v on pin 16 or ground on pin 4/5 or maybe even better the data line pin 3 or 7 I think?
By means of a switch or a fob or even an ignition fed relay?

This sort of thief's at this stage is not clever enough to realize all they would need to do is to power the device from external power, but if the data line was ignition fed that still wouldn't help them , your cars security would lie back in your ignition barrel.

What do you think?.

ps if any thief's are reading this can your reprogram a couple of keys for me please? as Porsche want silly money.

I honestly don't know if this is possible, but with a Durametric, PST2, or PIWIS tester you can't connect to the DME on a 996 without having the ignition on. There is a way with a 987, but I'm not going to tell you!

Yes but thats with a Durametric[;)]

I'm going to ditch pin 7 just so I have a method of "Stop" mode.

Remember that the VW algorithm was completely hacked recently and having seen what can be done through an OBD port I'm not confident enough to say never as I'm sure none of the Car manufacturers are now either.
