Oddments tray cover hinge

The plastic hinge has broken on my tray cover (a common problem). I have bought the replacement metal hinge kit and obtained a copy of the TSB as below

My question is do I have to remove the whole centre console or is it possible to gain access to the rear of the console? If I can get in from the back how does the trim come off as shown by the arrow in the picture?

In the workshop manual it shows it as "unclipping". It looks like it comes off vertically. Probably needs a bit of careful tweaking with a screwdriver at the sides. If you want the pages from the manual, send me an email and I'll attach them to a reply.

To finish off this thread it is easy to replace the hinge. The trim shown in my earlier photo lifts off vertically as suggested by Richard. I didn't need to use a screwdriver, I managed to lift it off using finger power only.

This gives the access needed to get to the rear of the hinge to fit the two U brackets.

As well as the support bulletin

this photo session from Renntech was also very useful.

The whole job took about half an hour.

Thank you Richard for your help

Hi David,
Just one final quick question.....
Where did you get the part for this fix, was it direct from an OPC or from another vendor.
Many thanks
Paul

Hi Paul
I got the part from my local OPC who had it in stock.

The part no. was 996 552 960 01 which matched the support bulletin.

The cost was a few pence over £12 including VAT (after deducting 10% PCGB discount available at most OPC's on production of membership card).
