Odometer Repair

1. Can anyone tell me where the broken cog is in my odometer reset mechanism. Do I have to strip the clocks down or is it an easy fix?
2. Where can I get a replacement cog for sensible money. I have seen them on American sites but $30 + P&P (£20 all up) seems a lot to me for a little plastic gear.

Yo Graeme,If you`d mentioned this yesterday I could have got on it when I got back from Worcester(thanks again for the seats). There`s an article in 911&PW August2004 (I`ve just dug it out)page118,showing probably all you`ll need to know in step by step pics.If you haven`t got the mag in question,I`ll zip you a copy of mine.
cheers
John.

Silly question, but are you sure cogs stripped. I thought mine had had it, but I cleaned the contacts on the push switch and it's worked perfectly ever since.

Hi John/s
Thanks for the info both of you. I'm not sure it is the cog yet as I have not stripped out the dash, although the stripped cog was the only cause I had previously heard of. I have a set of white dial faces to fit, planned for next weekend so I'll have a look then.

I would still like to know of a source for a replacment cog if anyone can help incase that is the cause.

Try Porsch-apart run by Simon Butterfield. I know they actually repair broken odometers and dash clocks so I'm sure they can help

OOps. Can you tell I was rushing my answer [:D] I didn't even give the website address coz I was fearful of giving the other site that is similar but would get people into trouble at work []

I have a spare cog that I bought recently, so if you need it give me a call. But when I stripped the unit down the drive cog was ok.

If its the trip only then it is unlikely to be the main drive cog. I wouldn't bother stirpping a speedo down again just to fix the trip meter, I felt it is just not worth the bother.

You also have to be very careful not to damage the dial faces or the needles as they are very delicate.
