OEM Porsche short shift

Considering getting OPC Hatfield to install this upgrade on my 997.
What do others think ... Is it worth the £500...

I'm at the stage when the first thing I do when I get in the car is wiggle the gearlever ... Kinda reassuring myself it's the most important next bit to add to the 4S....

For me short shifter and PSE were (pre-PDK!) the first two ticks in the box, despite the short shift being a sticky shift when cold. Compared to the costs of some of the "trinketry" you can adorn your car with, £500 for the short shift is good value and will give you more pleasure![;)]

I retro fitted the short shift and love it. I don't find it too stiff when cold which is often mentioned. I think I paid just over £400 after PCGB discount.

It's a must on a performance car, why do Porsche make you pay for it. I know because they can [8|]

I really love it, well worth having it installed, it gives you really rapid changes and it feel "right" for this type of car. Its sticky when cold for the first 10 minutes or so, but after that its perfect"¦"¦"¦ go for it .....[:)]

My car came with short shift, purchased when it was 6 months old, and I must admit that initially I did not like it but having got used to it I think it is superb and would definitely specify it if ordering a new car. And yes - I think I would still go for a manual over PDK!

If you are handy with spanners or prepared to go to an independent to have it fitted , you can save a lot of money. I think the short shift mechanism can now be bought for a little over 175 pounds. Takes about 2 hours to fit tops. There are aftermarket options available but the OEM unit has the benefit of coming complete with a setting tool to ensure the linkage is properly adjusted. The reduction is shift lever movement is less significant in the 997/ 987 as its already shorter than the previous 986/996.
I have an aftermarket unit fitted and personally prefer the more direct feel the linkage gives.

Is this the same one that can be fitted to 986/996?
I belive I recall some saying that the 997 shift is better than the B&M shifter (which was later licenced by Porsche and sold as a Porsche 986/996 short shift?)

Yep.... and when are you going to update your signature?? Cambridge was in March!! [;)]

I had it fitted to my Gen1 by Porscheshop for a lot less than OPC and it is an OEM part. Worthwhile addition.
