oem stereo

I want to change the Sony stereo in my 993 for one of the oem blaupunkts...In fact this the second 993 I've had with the same sony unit in it - did Porsche do this on some cars?

Can anyone tell me where I can get a list of the oem blaupunkt models for 993's? - I think I'd like to find a Munchen RD104 or think they also put in Beckers.

I'd like as high spec as poss to go with the speaker upgrade in my 4S - I assume the Munchen is higher than the Becker?

Cheers

Be careful if you go the Becker route. I bought a CDR-22 on eBay (ex-Boxster), the LCD display was so dim it was unreadable, apparently it is designed to be read at a steep angle, the 993 dash doesn't allow this. I had to have the Becker modifed at a cost of £135.

Yes the Becker CDR-22 has a CD slot. I like the Becker as it suits the age of the car and is Porsche branded. It has improved the sound quality slightly over the oem Sony head unit, but the oem speakers still let it down.

The Becker oem for 993 was CDR 210 wasn't it - the CDR-22 is the newer style?

So they did do Sony as oem's also - it just looks so out of place..

Do you have updated speakers as in the S's? - not sure if these would sort out the sound quality you mentioned.

I think you are correct, the oem Becker for the 993 is a CDR-210, my CDR-22 came from a more recent Boxster, though visually there isn't much difference.

My 993 originally had an oem Sony, I would have kept it but the CD stopped working, I sent it off for repair but they are having trouble getting parts.

As far as I know and judging by the sound quality the speakers are oem Nokia, if there was a nice simple straight swap I would change them, but from what I've read here, upgrading isn't particularly straightforward.

Thanks for the info Peter - I might stay with the Sony a while if it is indeed oem.

The original Becker's and Blaupunkts are hard to get hold of... nothing on Ebay except literally a couple in USA but that would need reprogramming for our FM stations.

I'm due a look at a local 993 breaker so hopefully one may be available.

Hi

Just had a look at EBay and the US ones on there state that they will fit a '96 onwards 993. Do you know if there is anything that will prevent fitting to a pre '96 993?

Pete

Sorry Pete I don't know.... the guys selling them USA ones should though - they were very helpful when I enquired if they'd work in the UK.
