offsets / abs

Im thinking about buying a new 944 but need to know a few things first, basically i want an oval dash car so i can fit my turbo koni's and brembos on and wondered do they fit on all oval dash models as i looked at an 86 car yesterday which had the alloy wishbones on but had early cookie cutter wheels on which seemed to fit properly ,i would have thought they would have stuck out a bit due to the offsets, and what year did they start putting the abs on ?? I have my eye on an 89 S2 but the 86 car i looked at didnt have a sunroof so would be better as its getting turned into a track car anyway !!!

The offset change appeared with the '87 model year for the introduction of ABS (though it remained optional equipment back then), and '86 cars have the same offset as the early dashboard cars, whence early cars wheels such as Cookie cutters will both fit & look fine on an '86.

Sunroof is a no-no if you're tall and pretend to wear a helmet, unless of course if you take it off.

Not sure if the one i looked at had abs or not, will the turbo suspension and brakes fit the 86 car, i have everything needed to convert ???

The schocks will fit without any problem.

Not sure about the brakes, but I guess you will need to fit turbo steering knuckles to be able to fit turbo calipers/discs.

I have everything ie discs ,calipers ,wishbones, hubs,Arb's,trailing arms ,drives shafts, torsion bars etc !!

If you've got the hubs and wishbones and all the other bits then surely it doesn't matter which offset car you get as once you fit all your gear then you'll have the offset the bits you've fitted gives you i.e. the later car offset.

I'm not sure what is involved at the back to change the offset, but at the front if you have everything (which includes tie rods for the rack) then it will fit as the top mounts and the crossmember/castor mount locations are the same throughout the whole production run.

What is the difference in the tie rods ?? , i have everything for the rear so the plan was to just fit everything and see what happens !!!
