Oh its not an S

Having owned my new 2.7 Boxster (987) for four weeks (and what a great 4 weeks they have been) it hasn't been until the last few days that friends and family have finally got to see my new pride and joy. Regretably one of the most recurring phrases I am getting from those who know about cars is "Oh its not an S".

Does anyone else with a 2.7 get this? Any suggestions for responses?

Makes a change from "it's not a proper Porsche" :ROFLMAO:

We own a 987S so no one has ever said that to us. However when I got my V6 Cayenne every one asks "is it an S or a Turbo".. I have two replies the nice one is "no its the V6 and its perfect for what I need it for" .. the other reply is "ohh and your Porsche is a ??? .... ahh yes thats right you dont have one ..." .. sometimes I add on "and yes I have two..." [;)]

If I was you I'd answer "No its the 2.7 and its perfect for me .."

I was lucky enough to be invited to Milbrook to have a day driving various Cayenne versions courtesy of Porsche Centre Solihull. Clear winner for me was the V6 over the V8. Nice engine spoilt only by the lack of a gear lever......

Bob Geldof is leading the fight against poverty, George and Tony are battling in their quest to rid the world of terrorism, we all wonder how we will manage financially in old age... that's if a serious illness doesn't afflict us first...and you wonder whether you should have bought the S instead of the 2.7.

As my daughter would say ' Live in the now'

I am a new member, this is my first post, and the Boxster is my first Porsche, the S incidentally.

Sorry to inflict my sarcastic wrath on you but I can't help it...just drive the damn car you lucky, lucky man and put any criticism down to petty jealousy.[;)]

He actually isn't wondering at all!

Paul

Just say "What's an 'S'?

JCB..

(Lots of posts and one 2.7)

John

You are right ... I am very pleased with the car and it is the one I wanted (with options chosen for me not resale).

I have been mostly been using the "Yes its not as S but is the one that suits my needs" although I have been tempted to use the "Remind me which Porsche do you drive?" line.

Paul

Yes, you are of course correct Paul, but the mind works in mysterious ways and I wouldn't be surprised if the 'Maybe I should have bought...' thought hasn't already entered the head of what I assume is a normally rational and intelligent person. Happens to us all.

Next time I won't make an assumption and just read the post and enjoy the chat.

My second post...an old pro![:)]

We are enmeshed in the cancerous worship of "security" and in our devotion we
fling our lives beneath the wheels of routine-and before we know it our lives
are gone.

What does a person need-really need? Some food each day, heat and shelter, six
feet to lie down in and some form of working activity that will yield a sense
of accomplishment. That's all-in the material sense. And we know it!.

But we are brainwashed by our economic system until we end up in a tomb
beneath a pyramid of time, payments, mortgages, preposterous
gadgetry
and playthings that divert our attention from the sheer idiocy of the charade.

The years thunder by, dreams of youth grow dim where they lie caked in dust
on the alter of wealth..

Before we know it the tomb is sealed. Where then lies the answer? In choice.
Which shall it be? Bankruptcy of purse or bankruptcy of life? [;)]

Excellent.

'Twas on the good ship venus...' sorry wrong forum.

Oh I love this...my life will never be the same again.

I haven't had anyone I know say anything other than "Wow". My response to these fools would probably be physical but if I could restrain myself I'd probably reply with, "if you knew anything about cars you'd know the Boxster is all about handling and another £[insert correct amount here] for the sake of an extra few straight line horses seemed a bit ridiculous. Besides, I hate red brake calipers anyway"

Enjoy it, the 2.7 is more than anyone really needs. that's why I choose a 2.7 over the 3.2, not to mention the wad of cash I saved on the purchase, running and insurance. That money is better spent on track days and trips to the Nurburgring. At least that's what I tell myself when I cry myself to sleep at night [:D]

Hi Paul,
If it really bothers you when they say its not an "S"??

You could always stick an "S" badge on the back....It'll only cost you a few quid[;)]

Nah, don't bother; they will then say, "oh, it is not a Carrera" and so on... I'm sure a Carrera GT owner gets a, "oh, it is not a Bugatti", now that Clarkson has educated them on the price hierarchy of cars... [:)]

Well said.

Having said that it is galling to have somone knock your pride and joy. I used to get grief all the time when i had an MX-5. The usual jibes, girls car, hairdressers car , poofs car etc. Odd that when the sun was out and the top was down the same people would clamour for a lift.

Some people will never understand that we appreciate and enjoy open top motoring, I personally think theres nothing better, (well apart from horizontal jogging). Some people dont understand the enjoyment a great handling car can bring. And when you combine the two, well its just fantastic.

So in the end tell em to stuff it, you kno what you like and thats that.

Oh and next time somone asks your opinion on their Fordhaull Mundano, jus reply "Oh so youve given up on life then....."

IMO you should point out that Jeremy Clarkson drives a Ford and raves about it. Says a lot about his taste in cars and your choice says more about you.

Enjoy the car, the 2.7 is a great car.
