You need to stick your head under the car and check which sump you have. Mine has thr metal sump and is a alloy finned one, i suspect the plastic one will be black. If unsure give it a little tap with a spanner, that will give the game away.

Yep that's one option, but as the handbook covers S2 and turbo I wondered if the turbo had plastic , alloy, or either.

My '89 manual doesn't mention anything about a plastic sump???? (are you sure you don't mean fuel tank) and whenever I've changed it myself I've allowed 6.5 litres
I'm reading from a 1990 model year S2 and Turbo Drivers Manual, on page 52 it refers to (vehicles with plastic oil sump........approx. 7.5 litres) Not too concerned though, I've got 15 litres in the garage.

Make sure you spread a large catch cloth under the car when you do it as I always manage to spill plenty out of the oil filter [8|]
Apparently the trick is to drain the old oil from the sump, make sure you can loosen the filter then poke a hole with a screwdriver through the top to allow oil to run out of the filter and into the sump. Leave that for a while then remove the filter (maybe with a plastic bag over the top)
Then swear profusely as what appears like 6 litres comes out of the filter and all over you/ the drive/ your catch cloth

[] Good tip about puncturing the oil filter, as I've just lashed out on having the drive block paved I'd be a bit upset if there was a big black puddle on it, [].
