Oil change, again?

I had my Macan serviced in November 19, which included an oil change. The car is now telling me that it needs another oil change, 3000 miles and 12 months later. The service guys at my opc tell me that the car monitors the oil quality and that this is probably the issue! Not sure what I make of that. i then read the service manual which states that my model of macan does not need an oil change at 2 years, you wait for the car to tell you that it is required. Might the car not "realise” that the oil has been changed and it is now flagging it up? I could do without the hassle and cost of changing it unnecessarily.
Thanks, Phil

Have you been doing a lot of short journeys ? With all the covid restrictions a lot of people have probably been doing all short trips without the regular longer ones in between which would affect the oil quality or if that doesn't apply it may be that when they changed the oil last time they reset it to the values of a model that had a shorter interval by mistake

Very interesting.

My 13 month old MG2T has done less than 8k miles and I had the oil top-up message the other day.
Boxsters/caymans have never needed extra oil between services.
Has something changed?

I do make long and short trips, regularly.

I had a similar experience with my Macan SD a couple of months ago. I have posted the thread below:
Oil Change Due?
In the end I had the oil changed at a local independent specialist, rather than a PC. Cost was £250.

Yes my everyday Tiguan is now showing oil change needed its only done 2.800 miles it's this lockdown year. It scheduled is 10 k or every year but feel it doesn't need an oil change at such low mileage this year might do couple of more months for a service.
Obviously they set the service indicator comes up after 12 months never had it come up early
very strange in your case.

For a diesel, repeated short journeys will affect the way the PDF regen works and reading up on this elsewhere says that this can have an effect on the quality of the oil as the extra fuel added to heat up the PDF doesn't get used and finds its way in to the oil.
Couple of posts below may help.
