Oil change details.

Hi everyone! I've been thinking of doing a DIY change of the oil on my 996 3.6 (MY 2003). I usually do all my own work on my cars - but have never touched my Porsche. I've currently got Castrol GTX Magnatec in it and all seems well, but the lads at Opie Oils have advised me to change it to something like Silkolene Pro S or Motul 300v - of which I think that I'd go for a 5w/40. I'm going to change the oil filter as well.
Could anyone send me a link on how to change the oil?
Do I need to get the car in the air - or will it be ok to put the back end up on ramps? If I were to use ramps, would there be a pool of old oil at the front of the engine?
Can someone advise me on where might be best to get the oil filter from?
Do any of you think I'm wasting my money/time on this? The Magnatec has only been in there for 5 months/ 800 miles!! The car is never driven hard and is mainly used on A-roads - I'm only doing about 2000 miles a year!!
There's a lot of questions there, sorry!! Any opinions would be gratefully received, as always! Adrian.

There is an excellent DIY on Renntech: http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=7055

You only need to get the car a few inches above ground, if you have a large shallow pan to collect the oil. Ramps would be fine, but you need to get the car level.

You can get a filter from an OPC - they are only about a tenner, or mail order from www.eurocarparts.com. Part numbers are in the Technical Articles section.

Having said all that, I wouldn't bother if it has only done 800 miles. GTX is fine, I have it in my car at the moment, but you might want to consider the (Porsche approved) Fuchs Supersyn 5W-40 next time. You can get it from Opie oils.

Hi Richard. Thanks for that. I think that I may delay things for a while. In the meantime I'll have a look at the links. Thanks again. Adrian.
