Oil change on 987 - which oil to choose?

Good afternoon all,

I am wanting to change the oil and filter on my 2006 987, and I know there has been discussion on preferred oil types,
but cannot see anything recently. My local independent has suggested 'Liqui Moli' and to go for motorsport grade.
I know oil is very expensive nowadays, but then again it is a good investment in looking after Stuttgart's finest!!
I'm not doing huge mileage - about 5k per year, and not into motorsport, but just want to look after the engine.
Any comments on this make, or any other preferences would be much appreciated....

There are so many choices, but using 0W40 or 5W40 fully synthetic is a must as a starting point.

Liqui Moli is among many top oils but may not be so easy to find at good price and the Boxster takes 8L of oil so price is a factor!

You can't go wrong with Mobil 1, as it is the Porsche oil of choice but following the recommendation of my Indy a few years back, I use Mobil Super 3000 X1 5W40 as it is recommended by Porsche and a sensible price.

I'd recommend a visit to Opie Oils website as they have loads of suitable oils and the Data Sheets are available for them too, so you can check if they're Porsche approved. They also offer a discount for PCGB members on their already sensible prices!

Good luck with your search!

I would expect so - A40 is for petrol engines. For diesels like the Cayenne etc. the Porsche approval is C30.

The Opie Oils site provides all the A40 specs if you search for them:
