Oil Change

Hi All

About to do an oil change on my 2003 Carrera 2. Its done about 5000 miles since the last service. Will change filter as well just so as I know its been done. Oil is very clean and still feels smooth.

Anybody got any tips before I crawl under?

Label under the engine cover states Mobil 1 filled from new but not sure if its always had it. Are there any known preferences? What grade is recommended?

Mileage is just on 80k.

Also, anybody know how the fuel filler cap tie should be anchored? Mine has come loose at the body end and I don't really like putting cap on windscreen while re-fuelling. Tie is perishing and could do with being replaced, is it available on its own or do I need to buy a new filler cap?

Regards

I'd go for a -50 with a bit of ZDDP. Ours is on Millers synthetic 10W-50. Tim '03 Carrera 2 Cab

Should I use only a Porsche supplied filter or are there other equivalents that are suitable? How about the parts supplied by GSF? Regards

Mobil website recommends 0W-40 for my car. Problem is there are a few different Mobil 1's in 0W-40. Is the Mobil 1 New Life, the thing to use or the Mobil 1 ESP? Obviously not the Turbo Diesel grade. They like to make it tricky for us, don't they?

If you have to go with Mobile then Opie oils recommend Mobil Super 3000 X1 5w-40. I would not go lower than 5W on an older car and many of the experts such as Hartech recommend 10W.

Yes, sounds like just the right thing.... [] "Mobil Super 3000 X1 5w-40 is an excellent choice for automobiles, light trucks and vans operating in driving conditions requiring a high level of performance, requiring specific builder approvals and for superior performance and protection"

I've just had mine changed - using Mobil 1 0-40 and filter from Opie oils. Have also had a magnetic sump plug fitted. First non specialist garage could not undo sump plug so it had to go to indy to sort out, which doesn't seem to have caused them much of a problem, but justifies decision to get it done rather than do myself. However new sumpl plug should make it easier for me to do myself in future Your petrol cap problem; I have the same and would love to hear how to fix!!
