oil change

Ditto - I have stipulated an oil service as part of the deal (along with fresh tyres at the front and some other cosmetic tweaks including new mats) for my 3k ex-demo 997S. Oil is the life-blood of any engine, especially one so precious, so a bit of pampering gets my vote too! Perhaps it's habit, but I also subscribe to the view that a yearly service is common sense, if only to make a note of jobs that might need addressing later on.
Consider the oild change a birthday present for your loved one (er, the car, that is...!)[:D]

Gentlemen, I'm curious.
Just what does Porsche say about oil changes on the 997?

20k miles or two years on both 987 and 997

The only reason for this is so that running costs look comparable to other cars in the listings issued by the motoring press and leasing companies. Oil quality and longevity has come on leaps and bounds over the years but i won't be leaving the first fill in for more than 5k miles.

Interesting comments, and I can understand your thinking. But I'm going to embrace the new technology and design and wait the full 18,000 miles before I put mine in for it's service. In 12k it must have had 4 litres of mobile 1 anyway !![;)]

hey every one, got new oil and filter to change this we, is their 2 drain plugs ? if so how do i dentify em ? full lowdown on do's n dont's if ya could, aint even spoted filters home, cheers.

Only one drain plug and the filter canister should be easy to spot. A couple of years ago I remember that OCBen, over on the Rennlist forum, posted a very detailed description of a DIY oil change; it might be worth doing a quick search for this.
