Oil consumption (or lack of)

964rh

New member
According to various articles regarding the 964, I should expect oil consumption of 1ltr/1500miles. Is this correct? because i've only used 1ltr over 4000miles!!

Engine runs fine with correct pressures and has no leaks.

Should I be concerned about this?

Thanks

Rob

Hi Rob,

Mine has not used a drop even after the thrashing at Bruntingthorpe. It's amazing with these cars you get paranoid if it uses oil and you get even more paranoid if it doesnt. I think we should be grateful for having leak free 911's from a ere when they leaked like a bucket with holes in it.

I think you should just be very pleased that you've got a nice tight engine ! My 1990 C2 also seems to use next to no oil, but it has had a top and bottom end rebuild together with the 'gasket' mod. My old 3.2 used about a litre per 1500 miles and that was not a major concern.

I must admit I was getting worried about a lack of oil consumption myself. I check it regularly and havent had to add a drop since I've had it (1200 miles covered). Maybe I should get out more...

I think you must have owned some dodgy 911s, because I would suggest that's not the experience of most 911 owners.

No Offence meant Bones[8|]. This is my first 911 and I read most of the buyers guides and took a lot of useful advice from you guys on this Forum. I was always told to expect some oil leaks on SC's and 964's. I stand by the fact that myself and Rob have been lucky to have tight leak free engines. Lets be honest even Boxsters and 996's have had their issues. I only meant a bit of jest[;)]

None taken , just pointing out 911s are well engineered for those secret watchers hoping to get some info on the venerable old 911s before they make the wrong purchase.

Totally agree Bones. Theres not many 25yr old cars you can thrash around Bruntingthorpe at 140mph, drive 2 hours home and still get people admiring your car. Not bad for £8000[:)]
