Oil cooler queries

Hi there.
I am a new member with a recently acquired 1980 911SC. I wonder if anyone can give me some advice:
1. The oil cooler in the front wheel arch doesn't seem to get hot even after a 50 mile journey - is this normal? Is it controlled by a thermostat?
2. The oil temp gauge only moves a tiny amount and doesn't get out of the first sector even after a long journey (the engine does't seem to be running hot)
3. The oil level gauge has a habit of flicking up and down. It spends most of its time in the red sector although the oil level seems to be ok
4. I recently changed the oil and filter and now I hear a glugging noise that seems to be coming from the oil tank when I first start up and it lasts for about a minute. Have I got an airlock or something?

In addition to these points can anyone advise me if it is possible to check the car's specification from the factory? Whilst the advert I responded to did not mention it the car seems to be to the Sport specification (16in fuchs/original sports seats/spoilers front & rear/green struts front & rear). Is there some way to check?

Thanks

Richard

2. The Normal" range for the temp guage is the white box in the lower quarter of the gauge. It's always seemed like a strange design to me - with that long unused white arc before you get to the red. Maybe that's there to let you know you're "pushing it," although I've never managed to get the needle out of the white box?

Hi Phil

Thanks for your detailed response - really helpful.

I will change the filter as that seems to be the problem. I assume I can do that without draining the oil tank?

I've seen Chris Hevey's comment about the oil temp gauge and that's exactly what mine is doing. I've now looked in the drivers manual and that also says normal temp is at the top of the white field - seems odd to have a big bit in the middle before the red sector!

The oil level gauge does move up and down as you suggest but in between it flicks all over the place - I'll check the electrics

I am planning on driving the car to Italy next month - are there any spare parts you would recommend carrying other than bulbs & a V belt?

Regards

Richard

Ps tried to upload a photo but the file was too large - I'll have to engage the skills of a teenage offspring to sort that out
