is that for all the oil needed at an oil change?

I have been trying to find mobil1 cheap but never been able to buy it for less than £100 total ( I think I need 12 litres in my 2.4S from memory).

I don't have a costco near me ( I assume it is a discount supermarket? ).

I don't have access to a Costco either.
I buy Mobil 1 each year when I go to Le Mans - it's only about £20 for 5litre(!) packs now in the supermarkets in France...[8D]

James, are you sure you want to be using Mobil 1 in your 2.4s anyway?

james, get to costco in leeds, its not that far for you is it? mobil 1, 23 pounds for 4 litres inc vat, just put 10 litres in mine......cheap as chips, well, compared to opc prices it is[:D]

Thanks Jeff, but even I can't find online sales from Costco UK on google [&:]

From the terms and conditions of membership on the www.costco.co.uk website I don't qualify for membership anyway - only "bonafide business owner/manager who can provide evidence of trading" are eligible.
No chance for me then [&o]

There are two types of membership for Costco: Traders and Private.

Traders requires a business and annual membership is £23.50 and then you can get up to 6 others members (anyone, doesn't have to have links to your business) at £14 each.

Private membership is £29 but you are only allowed in after 12 midday.

If you use Michelins on your car then your membership will pay for itself by just getting new rear wheels from Costco... The Michelin guys told me (at Brands Hatch) that Costco are their largest buyer (which also means you get new stock and not ones which have been stored for months) and they do not make money from the customers but do so by rebate on each wheel sold directly from Michelin; wish all traders were like that...

Oh right. Thanks!
Funny, the website seems to indicate only Trade allowed - and there's only an application form and costs for trade on there...
Talk about turning potential sales away! [&:]

So how do you become a member then? Walk in your nearest store? (Not so near for me!)

Is the oil for a service on a 996 C4 really £102 ??? Mobil ??

Rog
i'm taking my car into JCT tomorrow for its first service, how much oil do you need? i thought it was 9l?
Is mobil 1 from halfords about £35 for 4l?

I used Mobil1 in the car in 2004 , this year I have got Silkolene in it ( 15 /50 I think). Both are full synthetics. I have been very happy with both of these oils and find I don't have any leaks. I think I prefer the Mobil1 over the Silkolene

I know some people are against full synthetics in 'older' engines but having spoken to oil experts and now having experienced the oils myself I prefer to use a high quality full synthetic [:)]

Mark, I have emailed you the details on your yahoo account.

4litres of Mobil 1 from Halfords is about £35 (Halfords sometimes do special offers, typically bringing the price down to about £28, but not at the moment AFAIK)). I also believe a 996 engine needs 9 litres (the older cars took a bit more than that I think).

An OPC charges oil by the 0.5litre, probably at about £5.50 so that's around £100.

Porsche released the latest Approved Oil list in July, which has 70-odd oils listed. Interestingly, only 4 are 0W-40. Any anoraks (like me) can download the list from http://www.wrightune.co.uk/faq.htm

I wonder what the OPC would say when you walked in with Westfalen Gigatron 0W-40? (Sounds like good stuff to me).

You may find that a decent 5w-40 synthetic is a better buy and in UK climates there is no benefits to using a 0w oil as it simply does not get cold enough.

Porsche does approve 5w-40's and we have many decent synthetic ones that are cheaper than Mobil1 with no difference in quality.

Cheers
Simon

I guess that the general attitude is.

Well you own a Porsche, what do you expect.....................................

Etc.

Cheers
