Oil drain nut

Jim Fishwick

New member
My car has a slight oil leak from a large 32mm AF hexagon nut on the near side of the engine sump, I presume this is the engine oil drain plug, can any one confirm this.
Best regards
Jim

do not remove this at all costs if you think it is a drain plug please...

this nut has a spring on it or a small piston which pushes against the timing chain to keep it tensioned. timing needs to be in correct place to remove this or it may jump when removed..

Thanks for the info, I don't undo anything without knowing what it does, I thought the 996 had a cam belt ?
Best regards
Jim

nope its chain driven mate , it has an auxilary belt but no cambelt..

its not much of a job to do to replace the washer but it needs to be timed first so nothing goes wrong when removing tensioner, a local indy shouldn't charge you the earth for it doing, whereas opc may but who knows..
