This may prove interesting reading (or not) it is a post on the comparison of original equipment vs aftermarket oil filter.

Unfortunately they aren't Porsche but its still interesting as a comparison all the same as there are many people producing 944 oil filters.

Every time I do an oil change and have to get the filter tool out (in fairness its a cheap old school one) to change it I always wish I had bought the one with the nut on the top!

you can buy for about £5 to £10 a circular socket attachment that goes over porsche and a few other oil filters to remove them. halfords even sell one worth buying saves pain and knuckles.

in my personal opinion I would recommend the use of anything but the genuine porsche filter its only £8!

correction its only a £5 for the wrench!

I bought the K&N filter due to nut on the top and I have seen a about 3 comparisons showing the K&N as improved over oem filters for many a make. So far I have had no problems with mine and don't expect to with K&N's overall reputation, and it will be changed soon enough with the next oil change and probably for another.
This is the only comparison I can find I have looked at in the past but is for a Ducati motorbike;
