oil filter housing query

Hi all,

Changed oil and filter the other day.

Just a query re the housing should there be a spring or similar incorporated in the end of the housing to hold the filter against the engine, mine is just a plain filter housing.

Wondered if this is correct ?

Cheers

Dave

Thanks Richard, my housing is plain but I query this as there was a small insert incorporating a spring in the end of the old (non standard) filter cartridge that I removed - it didnt seem to fix into the end of the housing and appeared to be part of the old filter cartridge. I have retained it just in case.

Effectively I have one end of the filter cartridge that pushes on the mounting on the engine and the other end just rests against the inside of the plastic housing which I guess keeps the cartridge in place against the engine.

Ive actually found reference to this issue via the below link which suggests there might be an issue :

Going to have a look at a new filter casing if i can to compare it with mine.

Cheers

Dave

Have ordered a new filter housing today - this item is a locator and pressure relief valve for the filter assembly that should be part of / fixed into the end of the filter housing - mine had come away.

There may be more like this so its well worth checking during oil changes (see link above).

Regards.

Dave
