Oil gauge problem,

Hi all, when i turn on the ignition the oil gauge shoots straight to the top before starting the car, any ideas chaps all welcome......anyone saying thats the predictive oil pressure unit engauging need not reply as i talked myself out of that notion this morning........but the idea of having one was contenting for about five minutes....thanks
