Oil Header tank/Engine issues/Engine specialists?

Hi guys help is required here...

I bought a boxster of this 'cowboy' as it turns out. Basically i got a car with oil in the header tank thick as a whale omlette. I only found this out after my car spun off the road and had to be repaired. Car was taken to a body shop who i will not be recommending even though porsche in east london rate them highly.

They charged me 7k for body work that did not need to be done even though they new there was engine damage they never told my insurance company who will not pay out again as it was never highlighted in the first place. Chandler Stewart in Tonbridge.....'Crooks'

The story is longer and has been going on for the last 9 months. No car and no porsche for that long has been a pain to say the least.

However now i have decided to bit the bullet and get the car fixed out of my own money. The problem is porsche will not fix my car for a price as there policy is to fix and charge as they go. this does not help me out as i am on a budget.

I have been told that there is low compression in cylinder 3 which denotes a cracked head... is this the only thing that could be wrong. does it only need a head or could it be a simple gasket?? Or do i need a new engine and if so how much am i looking at including labour??

And does anyone know anywhere in Essex or London who has done this repair before. I dont really know where to begin all i know is there is a nice example of a car rotting away. I need to find a fix but dont know where to begin.

I need serious help as i want to get this sorted ASAP. I dont want Porsche in Stratford to get their grubby hands on my money. Since the accident happened in Dec last year they have had 3 service managers and 1 GM leave the company. Not exaclty helpful when you try and get some sort of assistace regarding the matter then get told she/he has left.

If anyone has any suggestions they would be most welcome......

Ash,
Dont panic and don't rush into anything, you have been without the car for some time so to get the job done properly at a reasonable cost you may need to put in a little time and effort. You need accurate diagnosis first before rushing into anything.
In Essex try Autostrasse in Coggeshall 01376 562922.
In London try Chris Turner Porsche in Willsden 02088451 (they have a website)
Try Autofarm in Oxfordshire 01865 331234 the have a website www.autofarm.co.uk, they have a good reputation for engine rebuilds and repairs at reasonable prices, they even have exchange engines.
Join the Porsche Club, lots of info and help! These forums have some gems of info and help.
Trawl the web for Porsch related issues, ther's tons of stuff and loads of independents who can help you.
Read Porsch related mags like GT Porsche or 911 & Porsche, again valuable source of info.
You may have to have the car trailered to a specialist to get it fixed or some may even collect.
Good Luck

Chris Turner (mentioned above) often comes along to the Richmond meet (2nd Wednesday of the month) and a Porsche Service engineer (Alex) has started coming to the Ace as a Porsche enthusiast; he is very knowledgeable and come on an unofficial capacity and is a very helpful chap. Ace Cafe meet is every last Wednesday of the month.

Hi Ashley
I have a Boxster and I use a company in Hainult called HPMotorsports. Having had Porsches for the last 15 years I have tried many indies in the South East and Joe & Phil are the best by far.
They will take the time to talk to you and are very reasonably priced.
Their number is 0208 500 2510.
Hope this helps
Cheers

Hi Bryn

Thanks for your advice. I have spoken to a chap in Hainult Essex who I know used to do all the outsouced work for Porsche in East London. He has quoted me some really decent prices and given me an idea what the problem might be.

I know there is low compression in cylinder 3 and that denotes a cracked head. Porsche would not give me a rough price on anything. They basically told me to go elsewhere to get my car fixed. Porsche in Stratford East London are shocking. They have got through so many memebers of staff its shocking to see.

Anyway like you said i have not had the car for some time. Since December last year to be exact. I have a soft top car which i love sitting rotting away. I am guilty of burying my head a bit but i could not see a way out. But i made one call to HP Motorsports and things look brighter. I have been told it could be anything from £1500- £4000 to fix. I would like the lower end but im realistic.

I hope fingers crossed i can get it done as i have had a rough ride from my insurance company and the original bodyshop people in Ton Bridge. I will not be advising people to take there car to them as wrong diagnostics was given and then they refused to fix it or admit they made an admin error. Oh but they too £6500 from me all the same.

Thanks for the post it has been appriciated.

Ash.

Hi Cliff

Im on it fella. I gave Jo a call and my confidence came back and a massive smile to my face. A very helpful and friendly chap who told it how it could be. I will take it there as its practically next door to me. Just need to get my car back from those theives in Kent and happy days I hope.

Thanks for the number though greatly appriciated. Maybe i can get my machine back on the road for one day with the roof down i hope.

Fingers crossed.

Ash..

Hi guys

Quick update on my Boxster saga that has lasted exactly a year. Took my car to HP Motorsport in Hainult. Good guys down there honest and open. I explained to themy my pickle and they said to get the head x-rayed to see if it was cracked. Came back clear which stil pointed to a cracked block. I still was not willing to accept this so told them to rebuild my old engine as it was costing far to much. £3k later the car is ready to be picked up no throthy residue in the header tank and the car seems to be running ok.. the head was not cracked after all???

Anyway drove 2.5 miles and it blows up on me again. Was told by HP Motorsports my rads did need changing at the same time. Money was an issue so did not take their advice. Anyway had the rads done today and picked the car up. I was cautious driving it considering i have had it go on me 4 times and did not fancy waiting for the RAC again for 3 hours. Got the car home (35 miles). Temp gage stayed constantish around 85-90.

Now i parked for an hour or so and went back out to the car clicked it once to get a reading of the oil. It was 3 bars down. I turned it off and done it again and it bounced around from min to 3 bars down. Now i dont have a dip stick so am really unsure about the digital oil gage as it is so speratic. Is it wise to top it up or just see how it goes??? I dont want to get caught out or over fill it.

Thing is I dont know if HP Motorsports filled the oil up or not. if they did then where is the oil going. If they didnt then that explains it and my car should be fixed finally.

Anyone had issues with their digital oil gage and am i the only one not to trust it???
