Oil in Air Box

Replaced the temperature sensor to cure an erratic temp gauge. Removed the MAF and rubber pipework to allow better access. I noted oil in the mouth of the throttle body and then found about 2 tablespoons of oil in the bottom of the air filter. I think the filter was changed about 5k miles ago (18mths), so it has collected in this time. Any ideas ?!

Sorry I'm not familiar with 2.5lt engines. But i would suggest a breather problem. Check that the breather is clear and not full of oil.

OK guys, I am now going to show my lack of mechanical skill and knowledge. Are we talking about the Oil filler unit, on close inspection there is a pipe that links from an expanded section on the filler (halfway down) to the large rubber inlet tube in front of the throttle body. All this is buried under the inlet manifold - am I looking at the right item?! If so how do i know if its full/blocked, how do I drain or do i try and suck it clear. OR are you going to tell me that I have to remove Inlet Manifold etc [][s1]

Colin, I don't think I could be much further from you, I live on the Kent coast near Dungeness. I have been doing a little research that suggest the there may be a blockage in the Air/Oil Seperator. I'm not going to panic too much and leave this for a winter job as i wish to clean up the engine bay anyway which will be easier with manifold etc out of the way, just carry on enjoying the car thru summer/autumn

I come down your way on a regular basis as I have a customer in Ashford. But your right to just use it and worry about it over the winter.
