sorry to change the subject totally but when i need to source some oil for my 997s what do i buy and how much should i expect to pay? also if we assume the level is now on the middle of the gauge how much should i put in in order for it to get to three quarters again (the recommended level according to the owners manual) and how many miles do you reckon i would have to do until i will have to top up the oil level?? cheers
p.s ive done circa 500 miles since taking delivery from main agent sutton coldfield

A new engine will certainly use more oil than normal.
Mine was using about 1ltr per 1500miles.
Mobil 1 is the usual oil, however there is a wide range of oils that meet Porsche requirements. The list is available from the dealer (but, I will try and find it out)
All are precision oils so expect to pay, Mobil 1 is around £45 for 4ltrs, costco is the cheapest place if your a member.
I seem to remember that each mark is 0.25 of a ltr.

£45 is for the newer 5litres size; Costco is still selling the old 4litres for some £23 and a few pence (inc. VAT) so still the cheapest per litre unless you are making a trip to the French supermarkets...

I have had some sucess in the past blagging a bottle out of a salesman in the OPC. On the premise of maybe in a buying mood soon!

...or just become an active member of a region as all the levels are topped up at the free health checks (including oil, coolant, battery water, etc...); we in the London region have at least two health check or full 111point checks in a given year at Porsche West london and Porsche East London and all members whether you are in the region or not are welcomed.

As it so happens I'm off to France this very weekend [;)]
Its already on my shopping list..

For some reason, they have stop stocking the 5litres at the supermarket next to the ferry and tunnel terminals, so you may have to go to the one in town but well worth it at think some €26 for 5W 40 for the 5litres Mobil one...

Just put 1/2 litre in mine today, car has covered 3500 miles now, that is the first top up that im aware of. ;)

can anyone tell me if chrome tail pipes are standard or opition on 08 model turbo 997, as one salesman said standard another said extra

Removed them from my spec as 07 they were standard.
Prior to that they were an option
