oil leak!! 84,944

I have found an oil leak, looks like it is coming from the lower balancer shaft from the front.
Is there a seal that can be changed and how difficult is it to do?
I have to chnge the heat ex-changer o-rings could this be causing it?
I am a bit worried about lining up the oil pres' switch, Book says u need a special alignment tool. Can one be made up?
 
Lucky you said that about the oil presure switch, because without that information I went ahead and did the heat exchanger seals without the special tool. It is a pigs orphan to do, but can be done insitu. You would need to have available 1/4 in drive sockets to get into the confined space best of all. The exhaust manifolds have to come off but can be left connected to the downpipes. Remove the rh engine mount and raise the engine a little. There is a seal for the balancer shaft but whether this can be done with the engine in situ is outside the realms of my experience. My educated guess would be that if you can realign the cam & balance belts, and remove the balance shaft housing from the block with the enginie in then replacement should be straightforward. It would certainly be something that I would consider doing if the need arose, but then two years ago I rebuilt the head on my 931, and did a complete strip, recon and rebuild of my first 924 engine before that so nothing phases me.

Porsche changed the spec of the "O" rings around the heat exchanger stub pipes, and the very latest spec are green in colour. The housing gaskets are bonded to a steel shim ( or they were back in 1994)

I discovered an oil leak from between the cam box upper front end sprocket..i thought it was the o-reng that needs replacing..but as it's not the fastest job i decided to have some more done while working in that area..so i had the cam box gasket and o-ring changed and all the belts+tensioners as well..washed the engine and hoped that everything's back to normal..but the bastard is still leaking..it's just a tiny leak but it trips on the exhaust and that's enough to make it burn and smell...
Is there any more gaskets or seals exept the o-ring? How important is the camshaft seal you can hardly see and feel(part #944 105 321 00)? Could this be the reason for my leak? That's the only one the mechanic missed(as far as i know)..it was supplied in a small plastic bag and he just didn't see it in there..[8|]

I had a leak that I thought was coming from the lower balance shaft seal but after my indy had a good look it turned out it was coming from the oil cooler matrix housing gasket, running down the side of the engine block and dripping off the front of the balance shaft housing making it look like it was the balance shaft seal. My indy replaced all the gaskets and o-rings with the housing I'm not sure if he went to all the trouble of removing the exhaust manifold and lifting the engine. If he did he didn't charge me for all that labour, the job was not that expensive, although he did say it was a pig of a job to do because of the lack of access. For the front balance shaft seal you are into removing the belts and i'd be inclined to replace all the front engine seals while your in there - if one seal is shot the others can't be too far behind. If the leak isn't too bad then it might be worth waiting until your next timing belt replacement.
