oil leak - known weak points?

HI All

After a few problems resolving a running issue (thanks again to the forum and Nick) - the car is now back on the road - but I have a small oil leak from the OS of the engine. Its not the front of the engine as I recently changed and retensioned the belts and this area was dry- but around the oil filter housing/oil pressure area as far as I can tell. Is this a known weakness? Simply a new gasket? Any other places on this side of the engine that could leak oil?

Thanks
Ian

If it is the OS of the engine it is common for either the balance shaft housing gasket or the oil filter housing gasket. Mine had a leak from there, I incorrectly diagnosed it as being the balance shaft housing gasket, but when the specialist took a look he discovered it was coming from the oil filter housing gasket, dripping down onto the balance shaft housing (i think) pooling on that and dripping down making it look like the balance shaft housing gasket. The repair job was much much cheaper. I like honest tradesmen that despite having the opportunity to rip you off do a proper job.

Thanks for the comments - I have had a good nosy around there and I do think its the oil filter housing gasket as it seems to end of pooling over the oil sender and that side.
