Oil leak

Ok, so my cheapo ebay lux has an oil leak. My regular mechanic (not a Porsche specialist) has found it and says its a seal on the crankshaft case behind the cambelt etc ...
He can fix it, but doesn't want to yet as he's concerned about why it happenned there in the first place.
One thought is that there is a blockage somewhere in the breather system thats caused this and that could also be causing the occasional smoke out of the exhaust.

Any thoughts or comments on this?
Also has anyone any suggestions on where to start looking for a blockage in the breather system?
