Oil leak

Hi - I wonder if someone can help. I have a 2008 997.1 which started leaking from the port as shown in the photos. It drips intermittently but significantly when the engine is on. It has probably lost over a litre in oil.

Could someone help me as I can’t seem to find out what that port is or why this leak might occur.

Thanks in advance.

I can't say for sure but that item looks like a core plug to me but I'm guessing. What i'd say is it's best to shop around locally for independent porsche specialists. I'm in London but use a company in Hertfordshire called AMS Porsche, who are excellent. They also offer a Saturday Surgery where they get your car on the ramp and physically inspect it and also run it through PIWIS to look for faults. You can get under the ramp and talk to the mechanic and when they're done they'll come up with a list of items in priority order. I'm quite into doing some work myself but being able to discuss items from my PPI, and what the mechanic found, was really helpful and informative.
Best of luck.

+1 on the above, and it looks like a substantial leak from your second photo … more than just drip!😳

Maybe it can be tightened if it is some sort of core plug? Whatever, as said it would be advisable to get the car on a ramp ASAP for a more detailed inspection by a specialist.

I would agree with Red997... if you are close to Kimpton in Hertfordshire give AMS Porsche a call.
