Oil level gauge

wondered if anyone can advise

just picked up my 993 c2 today from Hendon way motors. Noticed driving home that the oil level needle was in the red - the oil temp and pressure are fine

pulled over checked the level and it was fine (thankfully) called hendon - they said this is a know issue with them and not to worry. is this true? have anyone else had this problem? - I guess it must be a faulty sensor

thanks

The sensor should only be used when the car is parked on level ground and the engine is ticking over and fully warmed up -the reading is meaningless otherwise.
Enjoy the new car!

Welcome to porsche world. ...that's how the gauge works. ...it tells you how much oil is in the tank, so it always shows red when driving (most of the oil is in the engine ). ..then when you stop with the car idling, the tank will refill and the gauge should climb slowly back up to around the horizontal position (assuming engine is warm )

Luckily my seller explained this to me. ..but i remember the initial worry that you've experienced when i first drove home. It's explained quite well in the drivers manual.

I've been there, I feel you[;)],
I just wish dealers would reassure new air cooled buyers with usefull info prior to leaving the forecourt.
Mine had leaky cam covers when I brought mine, + taking the oil gauge quite literally = disaster [] at the time,
as the fellow members say, only check oil with a warmed up car idling, and only use the dip stick.
enjoy

Agree with all the advice above.

Not wanting to cause any undue concern but I would have the car inspected by a reputable independent. Not for the oil gauge issue but moreso because HWM are talked about a lot on the Internet.

+1. That is highly recommended, no matter where the car comes from. Right after purchase it´s much easier to deal with potential claims and as a newbie in the aircooled world you´ll learn a lot about your car.
Congrats to the 993, I´m happy with mine for 14 years now.

Many thanks Maurice for the reply - it's nice to know there are so many helpful bods on the club who can help and point me in the right direction[;)]
