Oil level sender replacement

Guest

New member
I need to replace this unit.
Is it a matter of, turn off the engine, disconnect the single wire from the sender. Remove the sender with a spanner, and replace?

Any help would be useful

Thanks

I was told by the garage that I use it`s a easy job, do it when the engine is cold then you don`t have to drain the oil tank[:D] undo all the bolts and lift the unit out but make sure you use a new sealing ring[8|]

Checked that already, took the wire off the terminal and put it on the other terminal and the guage moved a little so i guess its the sender thats knackered!!

Oil Sender Removal

Make sure you drain the oil first.
Then remove both wires on sender, remove the nuts and washers around the edge of the sender. With the use of a flat blade screwdriver gently prise the sender away from the oil tank.Peel away the cork gasket, which will probably be left on the face of the tank, discard this a new one will be required [ about 4or 5 pounds].All thats left now is to remove the sender,if you havent done this before, you might be fiddling with this for a while. The first impression here is that its too big for the hole to come out, then you think it went in ,so it must come out. There isnt much space between the sender and the inside of the rear wing, but if I remember correctly ,you have to turn the outer face of the sender so that its 90 degrees to the tank ,while turning it clockwise or anti clockwise.Basically if it doesnt come out right away persevere it will.
Clean around hole in tank, position new gasket, offer in new sender fiddle if you must.Tighten up new sender applying even pressure in a diagonal sequence.Dont go mad when you tighten these up the key is to have balanced pressure at each fixing.
Replace drain plug and fill up.All in all straight forward job.
Good luck.
