[:D]Hi,how hard is it to change the oil level sender, the light comes on the dash from time to time 1988 944S

Hi Stash

I did mine in about 15 mins.

Jack up offside of car (and support on stands).
Remove electrical plug from sender.
Remove 6 bolts, 3 from small heatshield and 3 from sender unit.
Pull out sender unit.

As the usual phrase says refitting is reversal of above.

The hardest part is paying for the new one, £72.97 [:)]

I just had mine done too. Note I just "had" it done - not expecting it was difficult but I don't really do oily bits myself any more.

May be a daft question but do you get access to the unit from under the car since i've noticed you might be able to get access from the wheel arch.

I'm thinking about replacing the sender unit and the oil cooler gasket since I suspect that area is where my current oil leak is coming from but have failed to confirm. If it's a quick job I might as well just replace anyway and see if that does the job! I'm sure alot of the gaskets and seals around the engine are as old as the car so are probably past their best.

Either that or i'll just get my local Porsche specailist to track it down - i'm getting sick and tired of looking for that blasted leak!

Cheers.
