Oil level sender

Folks you may have seen my post a couiple of weeks back (Oil tank) trailing my plan to replace the gasket between tank and sender unit.

All went well, though in process the female earth connector came adrift and so I had to replace. Easy enough, and joy, no oil leak!

BUT, gauge needle now hits full stop as soon as igniton is switched on. I suspect that the new connection needs remaking, but another thought hit me; has the sender been reinstalled in the right place? On mine the earth connector is now at about 4.00 and the live connector at 6.00. Maybe they should be at 3.00 and 5.00 respectively? If it is wrong I guess that might mean the float is always at top position so explaining the reading.

Would anyone like to have a look and see where their connectors are compared to mine?

The sender only fits in one orientation so that shouldn't be a problem, if the sender went in with a bit of wiggling but no force and is therefore installed correctly then I suspect the one of your terminals is going to earth or is not grounded, recheck the wiring as gauges leap straight to the top when they aren't earthed.

My oil level indicator always points straight up, its been suggested a bad earth could cause this, the connections on the rear of the gauge are fine, where exactly is the sender unit itself located so I can check those connections?

Thanks
