Oil Levels

Hi All,

Quick question.

Got the car back from Porsche yesterday after a major service and some other minor bits and bobs. Drove home and got into car this morning and the oils level is on the bottom of the green squares, still saying oops level OK.

How high does everyone go on their cars and how much oil is one square?

Thanks
Cad.

From experience I don't think it actually shows the specific oil level. After about 4k miles mine reported oil at min safe level but okay to drive. I put in 500ml based on advice which didn't change it. Put in another 200 and it went to green. As far as I can tell it doesn't show the actual level. Just okay or if it needs topping up. According to the manual this is the case. Happy to be told otherwise though

Isn`t the level to be checked after the engine has been run, to normal operating temperature ? It was with my late 2013 981 Cayman S PDK

Cad,

Check in your 981 Driver’s Manual but on my 987.2 CS with the car up to operating temperature (>60 deg C) and on level ground it takes about a minute for the oil level to settle until the measurement is taken. There’s a 3-bar display between min and max levels, each bar representing approx 0.4 litre. Don’t overfill!

Get into the habit of checking the oil level on a regular basis … I do it after every run.

Jeff

That is such good advice above!

my 987.2 will not display the final level after a run until it is hot enough and has ticked over for about 30 seconds, only then will the flashing display stabilise and show the level.

to avoid clouds of white smoke I have learnt to keep my 2.9 2 graduations down from full, the manual says one grad to be 'empty', I find this to be too much.

the OPCreally should have been precise with this, it is critical If you want a smoke free life!
