Oil On the Underside?

ORIGINAL: h4m0xxx Hi all, 2 things, 1) Hit a pothole (i assume) and one of my tyre walls is bulging - indy says I need a new tyre, is that likely or am I gullible? Sam
Definitely you need a new tyre immediately. Car is not safe to drive. If this was a new tyre it might be worth taking up with the supplier, as this should not happen, whether you hit a pothole or not. £200 for one tyre sounds a bit steep but what do I know. My 225/45 17s are approx £130 each. Sorry can't help on the oil leak, but other on here no doubt will ...

Hi all,

Edited

3) Oil on the underside - see http://img203.imageshack.us/i/snv37883.jpg/ - Is that bad? If so, how bad? When i touched it a little fresh(ish) oil came off onto my finger.

Thanks in advance all

Sam

Looks more like a cam cover leak to me. I've rotated your image to make it a bit easier to see

Ok thx! Will take it to a garage as soon as I am home. However I am away for a few days so can anyone confirm for peace of mind exactly how bad (technically and also in £) this kind of problem is?! Thanks so much all - really appreciate the help sam

Hi guys Thanks for the info - actually I haven't been driving the car at all since I have been away - but it has done a few journeys since then. No oil has dripped onto my driveway, no extra oil appears to be on the underside than all the weeks ago when I posted this.; The only thing I have noticed upon driving is that there is a small whining noise when pressing the accelerator only very slightly - it goes if off the gas completely or putting the foot down a bit more. I know I should take it to a garage but I am realllllllllly busy at the moment - at a guess - can I get away with it - or does it sound more serious..? Thanks again for the help :) Sam Thanks

It appears there is a problem leak but the only way to find out the root of the problem is to get it checked out properly. The question that only you can answer is whether you do that sooner or later... IMO sooner is probably better for the conscience (but not necessarily for the wallet)! Good luck!
