Oil pipe removal

There is an long oil pipe which connects to the bottom left hand side of the engine, it connects to the engine with about a 35mm nut.

Does this pipe have to be undone at both ends to drop the engine? I ask as I'm having the pipe replaced and the garage reckon they've had a hell of a time undoing the non-engine end, even though the engine was dropped a month ago for a new RMS and clutch.
Anybody know for sure?
