Oil pressure on start up with 10w40

Evening

Just finished doing an oil change today - used Millers CFS 10W40 - on start up the pressure was reading over 3.5 bar cold @ idle - pressure dropped back to a more normal idle pressure (approx 2 bar) when warmed up (normal engine operating temperature).

Driving, etc.... was absolutely fine, no pressure issues during a lengthy run and the oil levels checked out ok on both dipstick and guage - at idle and normalengine operating temperature.

The previous oil was 0w40 - on start up at idle it read approx 1.5 bar when cold - and probably stayed about the same when at operating temperature. Pressure when running was always good.

Now obviously when cold the 10w40 has a higher viscosity than the 0w40 so I was expecting an oil pressure increase - but I wasn't expecting to see quite such an increase in oil pressure.

Once at operating temperature both are the same 40 weight so therefore not really any difference as expected.

So I'm just wondering what 'cold' oil pressures other 10w40 users experience on start up and what oil pressure they see at idle when the car is at operating temperature.

I'd be interested to see what the norm is as I know a lot of 993 owners use 10w40 oils and higher even (10w50,15w50 etc...)

Cheers

I use 10-40 now my car is older and see 4Bar on cold idle and 2Bar when at hot idle.

I was a little surprised at your 0W-40 pressure levels when cold as that was much lower than when I ran similar viscosity oil.

Excellent - the same pressures that I am seeing cold and at operating temperature.

Thanks very much for posting the info.
