...at 5000 rpm, says page 42 of the driver's manual.
Well my car is only down at the 3.5 mark (or thereabouts) when idling and once it's well warmed up. When driving (event 2-3000 rpm) it's 4.5 or higher (sometimes over the 5 mark on the scale).
I've been reading all the technical articles and many forum posts on "oil" and it seems that what people are posting agrees with what my car is doing, not with the manual.
Maybe it should read "at least 3.5".
My concern is that I never (while driving) see the oil temperature gauge above about 8 o-clock. That makes me wonder if a thermostat is faulty and therefore the oil is staying colder/thicker than it should. (I saw the gauge at 9 o-clock for the first time last night when I left car idling for 10 mins to be really sure it was ready for an oil level check. But that was the only time in a day of 367, fairly high speed, miles down to Lancaster and back).
Any views on this?
