Oil pressure switch

I have an oil leak, small one, but getting annoyed at the oil on the drive. I've been told my oil pressure switch is at fault. Is this the same as an oil pressure sender, as I can order an oil pressure sender from the US at a fraction of the cost, and the part looks identical to me.

Thanks,
Paul

Get one from Eurocarparts they are only about £14.
I had to take off the distributor, radiator hose and oil filter to get access from above.

EDIT: Oops, didn't see it was a turbo...

Thanks all - I never heard of euro car parts until about 5 minutes ago, when somebody else said to get an ABS sensor from them.

Before you buy a new switch, pull the wire off the sender first. If it is the sender at fault, the gauge will stay at zero. If it still goes to the top of the scale, then it is a short in the wire or faulty gauge. Make sure you pull the gauge sender wire off, not the oil light wire.

You never know, this might save you £70![:)]

Is it really the switch? A wiring fault (broken or earthed) is a possibility, I'd have thought. Try pulling the contacts off the existing switch and then start the car. The change in behaviour tells you something, but I can't remember what ... someone else will be along to tell you tho'!

The switch is a VW/Audi part, you will be able to get a second-hand one if you look hard enough. They are a bit sought after as everyone wanting to fit Audi dials to their Mk1 and Mk2 Golf needs such a switch, but I am sure you will save a bit on £70.

Oli.

ETA: Tref has beaten me to it! Told you someone who knew what they were talking about would be along soon ...

I had the same symptons and it was the switch, cost me about £25 from Eurocarparts.
I connected a DVM on resistance setting directly to the switch to test, one side is a switch the other side is analogue and you will see a variable resistance depnding on oil pressure. The resistance values are in the manual which I guess is on Ricks site?

I didn't think they were too expensive new - i think I got mine from OPC Exeter

I've got a spare - swapped in a new one as I had oil pressure fluctuations - turns out it was the dash wiring, not the sender. The dial does peg high when the switch has failed

Can't se you getting one in the post for Friday though, not at Christmas

I'm in Derby if that's any use.
