Oil Pressure

There are a few other posts elsewhere on the forum about this topic, but I can’t see one specific to a 991.2 GTS, so thought I would post anyway...

Thankfully, I have now been able to use my car a few times since its 2-month hibernation over lockdown and (unless I just haven’t noticed it previously), my oil pressure gauge reading seems to be varying more than it did previously.

Taking the reading off the Vehicle Settings display, when the car is at idle and at medium revs, everything is as expected but above about 5000rpm, the gauge climbs very quickly and I have seen 4.7 bar and above (I think it went as high as 5.0 for a very short period on my last drive), which appears to be either in or very close to the red zone on the display.

I just wanted to check that this is as expected, as it is a little alarming. The owners’ handbook really only mentions low oil pressure and does not appear to cover anything in terms of high pressure. I am assuming that all is OK; there is plenty of oil in the car (about a 3/4 full reading) and no other warning messages have been displayed.

I think there is something on the GT3 section of the forum about this behaviour being linked to display calibration at the upper end of the oil pressure gauge; is this the same here?

Next time I am out in my car I will keep a close eye on the oil pressure and let you know what my readings are like.

Went for a good drive in my GTS today and the oil pressure was very similar to what you have described. At high revs and high boost I saw 4.6 bar so can only assume that is normal.

Thanks for doing this; I was assuming that this was normal behaviour but thought it worth a check.
