Oil price update

Particularly for those members who are about to ask your OPC to carry out your first oil change - it remains the case that we can save more than a few bob by supplying our own oil for the job. Current comparative prices for 8.5 litres of Mobil 1 0W 40:

- Porsche (East London) supplied: £127

- Halfords (Purley): £80 (pro-rated - actually paid £94 for 10 litres).

I guess it's possible that the oil could be sourced even cheaper somewhere - but above shows that we can still get a good deal with minimum research hassle when compared to OPC.

I just had my 996 serviced on Friday, at the new OPC here in Faro (Portugal), where I was charged a mind blowing €256 for 9 ltrs Mobil 1. Slight compensation though, labour only €49.50 per hour.

Many members fortunate to have a Costco nearby will also save a packet with a 4L Mobil 1 going @ £19.89. As a quick pop-in -and-buy, it's a good deal but it may be possible to better that with a little sourcing.

Every time I am in France I pick up oil, you can get all applicable grades of Mobil 1 for between £20-£25 for 4L and 5L containers. You can even pick it up in Super/Hypermarkets so no unpleasant deviations from the Wine/Beer/Food shopping! While we are on the subject good quality wiper blades are also a good buy. I haven't yet investigated tyres and other spares but when I do watch this space.....

Why be constrained by the Mobil 1 brand - it is merely a fully synthetic lubricant. Others are available, and many are Porsche approved.
